On Monday, April 11, the organizations Students for Israel and the ROTC sponsored an event featuring Israeli military colonel Bentzi Gruber, who addressed the topic of ethics in the Israeli military. The controversial title, Ethics in the Field: An Inside Look at the Israel Defense Forces, drew in much opposition to the event. I say “controversial” because the purpose of the colonel’s lecture was to explain the moral code Israeli forces apparently follow, but how can any moral code exist when the death tolls of Palestinian civilian men, women and children seem to contradict the notion of abiding by moral code? Nonetheless, it still seemed like a good idea to attend the lecture and pose some relevant questions and concerns.
